It's always been a goal of mine to be a short-term rental host, and while I know this seems like a nightmare to most, it's something I have been wanting for years and years! There's something about creating unique space for guests to relax in and enjoy, that brings me so much happiness and fulfilment. While I have been able to dabble in an aspect of short-term rentals with The Tumbleweed House, now just isn't the year to start this endeavor on my own. However, that didn't stop me from getting my certification in short-term rental design earlier this year.
Whenever my husband and I travel, I always insist on booking an Air Bnb...much to his dismay, haha. He would much rather stay in a hotel, but he always humors me and lets me explore the Air Bnb options intead ;)
I have stayed in enough of them that I now what the absolute bare necessities are for a space. However, I have also put together a mental list of all the items I would put into a space of my own one day. Items that not only look beautiful, but are functional for everyday travelers. Pieces that make guests feel as if they are staying in a boutique hotel, rather than someone else's home. Which, is why I thought I would start sharing my short-term rental tips with you!
Six Items to Elevate your Short-Term Rental
- First Aid Kit by Patch- This is usually a necessity when it comes to short-term rentals, but let's make it cute, shall we? I absolutely love this eco-friendly first aid kit by Patch. Functional, yet earth friendly. A double win!
- Non-Toxic Cookware by Sensarte - I recently purchased this for The Tumbleweed House via Amazon, as I have NOT been impressed by our Caraway pans that we invested a small fortune on. These Sensarte pans are affordable, light weight, and easy to clean! Great for guests or personal use.
- Vornado Fan - Maxwell and I just bought one of these fans for our own house, as Texas summers are NO JOKE, and we are absolutely smitten. Yep, smitten by a fan. Circulates air well, looks super cute, and great for guests to use at night time for white noise purposes, or to keep cool.
- Easy Plants - There are so many studies done on how real plants in a home are beneficial for mental and physical health. However, I know it can be difficult to keep a plant alive in a short-term rental due to overwatering or underwatering. Easy Plants take the guess work out of it for you. While the bigger Easy Plants plants are definitely more expensive than snagging a plant at Home Depot or at your local nursery, there is a built-in water reservoir inside the planter that you only need to fill up once a month. We love to use these plants for interior design projects, specifically in commercial spaces, as they are low maintenance and easy to care for!
- Noise Maker - Okay, I have yet to use a Hatch noise maker for myself (as I'm still reppin' a 10 year old Target noise maker), but I would absolutely LOVE if I went to an Air BnB and saw there was one in there. Every short-term rental should have a clock of some kind, and one that doubles as a noise-maker is an awesome option for guests (and their littles) to get a sound sleep.
- Home Court Cleaning Bundle - I discovered this brand from a past design client, and I am SO happy I did. I now have a tray of the Neroli Hand Soap, Dish Soap, and Surface Cleaner for Swimply guests at The Tumbleweed House, and it's so wonderful. Not only does it look beautiful on the counter, but it's a non-toxic cleaning option that smells wonderful, and by having it on the counter it provides easy access for guests to clean up after themselves. I personally love the Neroli option for Summer, and then the Cece fragrance for cooler months. Again, I know this is technically priced as a designer soap, but they have refill options and even if you just provide this in the kitchen, it will elevate the space immensely. Another bonus, it's in a plastic bottle, leaving you to not worry about broken glass!
Alrighty! Hope you all enjoyed this list of items to elevate your space! Even if you don't have a short-term rental, these are all great items to bring into your own home and use for everyday living.
